Susan D. Smith
Susan D. Smith, PhD, RN is a research and education leader at Christiana Care Health System and across the state of Delaware dedicated to advancing healthcare and addressing workforce challenges through innovation, collaboration, and scientific discovery. As the Director of Technology Research & Education, Dr. Smith is the Principal Investigator for the $1.5 million American Nurses Foundation grant studying the implementation of robotics into nursing practice and hospital operations. She is also the architect of the nation’s first in-hospital Nursing Research Fellowship in Robotics and Innovation that connects research to real-world technology applications. Across Delaware, Dr. Smith is the first nurse scientist appointed as Site Principal Investigator for the $2.25 million NIH-funded Delaware IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (DE-INBRE) program at Christiana Care, as well as the institutional representative for the Delaware Clinical Translational Research (CTR) Professional Development Core. In these statewide leadership roles, Dr. Smith leads and supports the strategic direction to build research capacity in collaboration with three academic institutions and a pediatric healthcare system across Delaware.
