Anna Staiger is a Senior Nursing Student with a Global Health minor in the M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing. Since Anna’s freshman year, she has been collaborating with Dr. Hallowell and engineering students on their “Blue Blanket” project through the INNOVATE program here at Villanova University. The Blue Blanket is a home treatment option to safely treat infant jaundice from home. Anna has presented her research with Dr. Hallowell through a poster presentation at the NSNA (National Student Nurses’ Association) 2020 Midyear Conference and has described her work on an interdisciplinary team through an article published in Imprint in 2021.
Anna is the current Executive Vice President of Villanova’s SNAP (Student Nurses’ Association of Pennsylvania) Chapter and is a member of NANN (National Association of Neonatal Nurses) and SONSIEL (Society of Nurse Scientists, Innovators, Entrepreneurs, and Leaders). She is on Dr. Hallowell’s Student Advisory Team for the Neonatal ICU Clinical Decisions Virtual Gaming Simulation and volunteers her time through NOVAdance, Special Olympics, and as a Nursing Ambassador for the M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing. She spent her last spring break volunteering with the organization, GOMAD (Go Make a Difference), in which she helped a village in the Dominican Republic with other students and adults.
Anna spent her summer as a Nurse Extern at MLH (Main Line Health) in which she floated between all floors of all the MLH hospitals. She worked on floors that included: the postpartum unit, nursery, emergency department, intensive care unit, step down units, oncology units, telemetry, and medical-surgical floors. Anna is an aspiring NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) Nurse and hopes to work in a children’s hospital after graduation in May 2023.
