2021 VU WOMEN IN TECH VIRTUAL CONFERENCE
Wednesday, February 3rd through Saturday, February 6th
Our 6th annual VU Women in Tech Conference took place virtually Wednesday, February 3rd to Saturday, February 6, 2020. The pandemic did not stop us from Engaging, Envisioning, & Enabling with Tech! The virtual nature of this year's conference allowed us to reach a wider audience. We set a registration record - over 420 alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends of Villanova. Our conference included two keynote sessions. On Thursday evening Cathy O’Neil discussed Weapons of Math Destruction and challenged us to think deeply about ethical issues when using algorithms & big data. Later in the week, Rebecca Mercuri led an interactive session on Building Resilience into Cybersecurity.
Throughout the conference, we met and learned from 20 speakers that are leaders and experts in their fields. Our 10 sessions covered a variety of tech topics from Nursing Informatics to FinTech, and a variety of tech movements including Women of Color in Tech and Leading with Tech & Data in Time of Disruption. The speakers willingly shared not only their time but also some of their challenges and successes from the last 9 months.
Navigating through this past year and moving toward the end of the pandemic, one theme was clear. Technology will help us continue to Engage with people, Envision a better future & Enable positive change.
