Our second annual Women In Tech Conference was on Saturday, January 28, 2017. We had a number of great speakers that shared their insight and experiences with women aspiring to have careers in the tech industry. A focus of many presentations was on the use of technology for the social good.
The keynote speaker was Dr. Marisa Weiss, chief medical officer, founder and visionary behind Breastcancer.org, the world's most utilized resource for expert medical and personal information on breast health and breast cancer. Dr. Weiss explained how she has leveraged technology to reach over 72 million people in 16 years and outlined her vision to digitally map a patient's life. Following the keynote, the one-day conference proceeded with sessions focusing on protecting data and value, application development, and data analytics. Throughout the day, photo booths were used to drive social media attention for a #ThinkTechThinkPink fund raising campaign. As a result, over $3,000 was raised and donated to BreastCancer.org on behalf of VU Women in Tech.
